news : Increasing local mobilization for water at the 9th World Urban Forum

    The 9th World Urban Forum,held from 7 to 13 February 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will serve as an important milestone in the preparatory process of the Local and Regional Authorities Process of the 8th World Water Forum. More specifically, two sessions, coordinated by the World Water Council and the Undersecretary for Federative Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, will be organized on the 8 and 9 of February. 

    news : World Water Council elects the City of Dakar and country of Senegal as hosts of 2021 Forum.

    On Saturday 26 November in Marseille, France, the World Water Council elected the capital city of Dakar and the country of Senegal to host the 9th World Water Forum in 2021. 
     
    The selection followed a rigorous evaluation process. The candidature of Dakar was unanimously approved by vote conducted during the 60th meeting of the Board of Governors.
     
    The 9th World Water Forum theme will be “Water Security for Peace and Development.”

    Brazil’s visionary theme of ‘Sharing Water’ for the 8th World Water Forum embodies its commitment to finding the best ways to use and conserve water. The Forum in Brazil, the first to be held in the southern hemisphere, will be hugely significant, not only for Brazil, but for the whole of South America, and Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries. Indeed, the blue-green logo that has been adopted for the 8th World Water Forum combines many of these aspects, including the number 8, a water drop, and an infinity symbol.
     

    news : 8th World Water Forum: Steering Committee meets in Brasilia

    Members of the 8th World Water Forum International Steering Committee (ISC) met for the first time in Brasilia on 2 and 3 May to discuss general orientations for the organization of the 8th World Water Forum to be held in Brazil in 2018. The meeting was opened by Rodrigo Rollemberg, Governor of the Federal District of Brasila and President Benedito Braga, co-chairs of the ISC, who both emphasized the need to regard the World Water Forum as an ongoing change process, rather than a triennial event.
