POSTPONE THE 9th WORLD WATER FORUM IN DAKAR TO MARCH 2022

    Dakar, Senegal, 2 November 2020. HE Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, hosted Loïc Fauchon, the President of the World Water Council, in Dakar, to discuss the latest developments in the preparation of the 9th World Water Forum. 

    7th World Water Forum Kick-off

    The 2 year count-down to the 7th World Water Forum will be marked on 14-15 May, 2013 in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea. This preparatory event is a milestone for each of the Forums. 400 participants are expected to take part in the two-day gathering including water-related government officials, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, public and private enterprises, networks and scholars. They will autonomously determine the agendas that will be discussed for the next 2 years and the way forward. More information:

    Countdown to 7th World Water Forum starts ticking

    8th World Water Forum 2018 to be hosted by Brasilia, Brazil

    The World Water Council selected the city of Brasilia and the country of Brazil to welcome the 8th World Water Forum in 2018, during its 51st Board of Governors meeting organized on 25-26 February in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. The selection followed a rigorous evaluation process and ended with a vote today 26 February 2014. 

    The vote is conditional upon the signature of an agreement between the World Water Council and the Government of Brazil, so as to specify the terms of their agreement.  

    Increasing local mobilization for water at the 9th World Urban Forum

    The 9th World Urban Forum,held from 7 to 13 February 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will serve as an important milestone in the preparatory process of the Local and Regional Authorities Process of the 8th World Water Forum. More specifically, two sessions, coordinated by the World Water Council and the Undersecretary for Federative Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, will be organized on the 8 and 9 of February. 

    Contribute to the Thematic Sessions of the 8th World Water Forum

    The 8th World Water Forum Thematic Commission invites contributions from all around the world to the Thematic Sessions. Participation is encouraged from policy/decision-makers, academics, civil society, end-users and practitioners from the public and private sectors, both within and outside the water sector.

    Further to the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting last April in Brasilia, the Secretariat of the 8th World Water Forum opens the opportunity to provide suggestions for Thematic Sessions. Interested stakeholders may share their suggestions for Thematic Sessions to be held at the 8th Wold Water Forum in 2018 by filling in the form available at the links indicated below.

    2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting and Commissions meetings

    The 5 Processes of the 8th World Water Forum - Political, Regional, Thematic, Sustainability, and Citizens- will gather with all interested participants at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on 26 and 27 April in Brasilia to contribute to the design of the 8th World Water Forum’s program.
     

    World Water Council elects the City of Dakar and country of Senegal as hosts of 2021 Forum.

    On Saturday 26 November in Marseille, France, the World Water Council elected the capital city of Dakar and the country of Senegal to host the 9th World Water Forum in 2021. 
     
    The selection followed a rigorous evaluation process. The candidature of Dakar was unanimously approved by vote conducted during the 60th meeting of the Board of Governors.
     
    The 9th World Water Forum theme will be “Water Security for Peace and Development.”
