It has 260 member organizations, which come from 52 countries across 5 continents, including governments, non-governmental organizations, businesses, professional networks and research institutes.


    Every three years, the World Water Council organizes the World Water Forum with more than 20,000 participants from all over the world.

    HEAD OF THEMATIC INITIATIVES

    Working time: 100%
    Venue: Headquarters of the World Water Council, Marseille, France
    Working languages: English and French
    Proven international experience.


    Under the general supervision of the President and the Vice President, the Head of thematic initiatives will undertake the following tasks:

    1. Thematic background analysis

    • Prepare thematic analysis to underpin the Council’s work with large water users inside and outside the water sector.
    • Prepare thematic background studies for the Council’s engagement with other major water-related sectors.

    2. Thematic initiatives’ development/implementation

    • Oversee the development/ implementation of the World Water Council’s thematic strategy with members and partners, in and outside the water sector.
    • Develop new activities and partnerships to engage on thematic issues in consultation with Board members.
    • Produce materials for developing and implementing the thematic initiatives/programs.
    • Secure financial resources from various sectors for existing or future thematic initiatives by working with specialists and leaders from different sectors on fundraising.
       
    • Lead the Task Forces/ Working Groups dedicated to the implementation of the World Water Council strategy, and prepare all documents, work plans, reports and materials necessary for their operation.

    3. Project administration and management

    • Manage and monitor the consumption of the budget dedicated to the implementation of projects in connection with the Secretary General.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to project officers, trainees and consultants to ensure high quality products are delivered.
    • Develop and use a detailed and time-bound workplan to guide activities and to deliver results. Report on all thematic activities.

    4. External relations

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with Council members and partners on the Council’s thematic initiatives.
    • Produce clear and concise written outputs in English for use at all levels, including for publication.
    • Provide regular input to update the thematic initiatives part of the Council website.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    The best candidate will provide:

    • A minimum master’s degree in Social, Political, Human Sciences or Water Governance.
    • A minimum of 10 to 15 years' experience as a manager at an international level and on the ground.
    • Proven ability to work on a wide variety of tasks, activities, and projects.
    • A rigorous approach to work.
      A proven ability to work effectively in real time.
    • Excellent use of French and English.
    • Ability to supervise a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
    • Excellent software and computer skills.
    • Availability for international travel.

    SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER ON THEMATIC INITIATIVES

    Under the supervision of the Head on Thematic Initiatives, the Senior Project Officer on thematic initiatives works on development, thematic monitoring of World Water Council programs and the thematic process of the World Water Forum, their implementation and administration.

    The Senior Project Officer will carry out the following tasks :

    1. Implementation of thematic initiatives, projects and programs

    • Propose and implement thematic programs to support the activities of the World Water Council and the resultant deliverables and evaluate outcomes.
    • Organize and lead Task Forces/ Working Groups dedicated to the implementation of the World Water Council strategy.
    • Prepare all documents, work plans, reports and materials necessary for their operation.
    • Prepare thematic analysis to underpin the Council’s work with large water users inside and outside the water sector.
    • Support the smooth running of the relevant Council Working Groups by convening teleconferences, tracking activity plans, contributing to reporting back at Board meetings and providing background briefings.
    • Develop new activities to engage on thematic issues in consultation your hierarchy.
    • Lead the development and implementation of the Council’s thematic initiatives engaging with members and partners in and outside the water sector.
    • Participate in the program fundraising effort.

    2. World Water Forums Thematic Process

    • Provide input into the World Water Forums - Thematic Program development, including supporting preparation of background briefs, meetings and other communications.
    • Support the Task Forces/Working Groups and Steering Committee dedicated to the organization and the holding of the Forum, by preparing all documents, reports and materials necessary for their operation (quarterly and annual work plans etc.) in co-production with the Secretariat of the World Water Forum, co-organizer of the World Water Forum.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Relevant master’s degree or higher qualification (in sciences, social, political sciences, or water governance)
    • At least 10 years work experience at an international level and on the ground.
    • A rigorous approach to work.
    • A proven ability to work in real time on a wide variety of tasks, activities, and projects.
    • Excellent use of French and English.
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
    • Excellent software and computer skills.
    • Availability for international travel.
    • Experience in developing analyses on specific issues and synthesizing background papers in a short period of time.
    • Experience in developing and coordinating thematic initiatives with a range of partners.
    • Successful fundraising, and narrative and financial reporting to donors.
    • Ability to write clear and concise issues briefs and reports in English.

    QUALIFICATIONS
