Latin American countries gather around water issues
The 2nd edition of the Latin America Water Week opened Monday 23 June. The event offers a platform to Latin American countries to build consensus on pressing issues facing the region. “Water is a highly political issue. Managing water requires making choices between constraints and opportunities shared among human welfare, economic growth and ecological protection,” said World Water Council President Benedito Braga during his Opening Address. “This effort resumes the mission and the role of the World Water Council in coordinating the efforts of the water community to speak in a single voice.”
Water Week Latinoamérica is a platform for the exchange of experiences and practices between the scientific, business, political and civic communities of South and Central America, focused on the water challenges and its impact on the environment, energy, health, climate, economy and society.
The first Water Week Latinoamérica was held in Chile on March 2013, following the priorities determined globally at the Stockholm World Water Week. This focus will continue on its 2014 edition, organized by the Mexican National Committee of the International Hydrologic Program of UNESCO. Read the program Proceedings of the event:
