Council to adress Water security issues at 3rd IIWF

    Detailed program of Forum sessions  The 3rd Istanbul International Water Forum will be organised between 27-29 May 2014 in Istanbul by the Turkish Water Institute (SUEN) of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs of Turkey. The Forum will primarily focus on the subjects of “Water Security” and “Legal Aspects of Water”. The above issues will be discussed in eight thematic sessions under the main themes. These sessions consist of a keynote address followed by a moderated panel discussion featuring internationally prominent water experts (water professionals, academicians, scientists, governmental institutions, international organisations, civil society organisations and the private business sector).  Next to the thematic sessions, there will also be side events and a Water Expo, where various water organisations and firms will present their activities, services and products.

     

    27 May

    • Opening Ceremony - Keynote speech of Mr. Benedito Braga, President of the World Water Council, on water security - 10:00, Haliç room.
    • Plenary session - Mr. Braga will moderate the “Water Security and Sustainable Development Goals” session - 14:30, Haliç room. The World Water Council advocates strongly in favor of a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water within the post-2015 framework and identifying water as a pre-requisite for all development. Read the World Water Council’s position paper on Water and the post-2015 SDGs.
    • “Water and Green Growth” conference - 14:00, Eyup room. Mr. Braga will open the session convened by the Council, K-water and the 7th World Water Forum National Committee. This side event will focus on sharing case studies where green growth policies have been successfully implemented around the world and on sharing the lessons learned.
    • “Strengthening the Istanbul Water Consensus ” water & cities panel - 16:15, Haliç room. The focus of this session will be to highlight the progress of this initiative since its inception in 2009 during the 5th World Water Forum. Launch: This session will celebrate the launch of a new international platform for monitoring and benchmarking among local and regional authorities.
       

    28 May 

    • “Adaptability of Water Governance at Different Levels and Regional Contexts” session - 9:00, Haliç room - with World Water Council Vice-President Dogan Altinbilek as moderator.
    • “Legal Aspects on Protection of Water Resources” session - 9:00, Eyup room - with Governor Karin Krchnak.
    • “Water-Food-Energy-Ecology Nexus: How to Achieve interconnected Action” session - 11:15, Haliç room - with World Water Council President Benedito Braga and Governor Karin Krchnak. 
    • “Progress of the 7th World Water Forum: from Istanbul to Daegu-Gyeongbuk” event - 14:45, Tophane room - with World Water Council President Benedito Braga, Vice-President Dogan Altinbilek and Governors Jung Moo Lee and Torkil Jonch Clausen. This side event will seek to present the latest information on each of the Forum's preparatory processes and invite stakeholders to get involved in the run up to the event in April 2015 in Korea.
