5th Global Water Security Seminar - Keynote speech

    On June 23, 2025, the Special Session of the 41st IAHR World Congress and the 5th Global Water Security Seminar was successfully opened at the Singapore EXPO, centering around the theme “Water and Biodiversity”. H.E. Mr. Chen Min, Vice Minister of Water Resources of China, H.E. Mr. Loic Fauchon, President of World Water Council, Prof. Philippe Gourbesville, President of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and Mr. William Yeo, Deputy Chief Executive of Public Utilities Board of Singapore delivered inspiring speeches at the opening ceremony.

    Vice Minister Chen Min emphasized the critical importance of water security and biodiversity conservation for sustainable development, and shared China’s policies and practices in promoting biodiversity conservation and its commitment in honoring SDG water related goals and targets. President Loic Fauchon stressed the significance of dialogue and cooperation in combating water challenges amid climate turbulence, demographic pressure, and ecosystem collapse, and shared his unique insights in the water governance principles proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

    During keynote presentation, experts and enterprise representatives from China, Brazil, Singapore and Spain showed on dam fishway construction, ecological flow release, water quality protection, pumping and discharging, digital empowerment, etc., shedding light on the relationship between humanity, water, biodiversity and sustainable development.

    The “Global Water Security Seminar” is a yearly flagship event jointly hosted by the Ministry of Water Resources of China and the World Water Council. It has been successfully held for four years from 2021 to 2024. More than 150 international participants attended the 5th Seminar.
