SMART Water Management – Call for Case Studies

The Steering Committee for the SMART Water Management Member Initiative met just prior to the Board of Governors meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan on 16 March 2017. Led by WWC Vice-President Dogan Altinbilek and K-Water’s Vice President and Chief Research Officer Seong Han Kim, the group discussed research results from 2016 and the way forward for 2017, including public consultations planned during a number of international events. The project will soon benefit from the expert support of IWRA as a formal partner in order to fulfill its objectives.

The Member Initiative related to SMART Water Management seeks to provide systematic and innovative water management approaches, combining existing water management practices with Information and Communication Technologies applied at any point throughout the entire water cycle. An analytical study, which will be informed by various case studies of successful SMART Water Management from around the world, is currently being pursued to demonstrate how this approach can help support sustainable development within the water sector. Indeed, two case studies from Korean communities have already been completed as a starting point.

In order to widen the scope of the research, K-water is calling for case studies from the WWC membership that can be included within the framework of its analysis. It is expected that the results of this work will be presented at the 8th World Water Forum in 2018. For more information or to propose a case study for consideration, please contact the World Water Council Secretariat.
