Catalyzing collective action from the 7th to 8th World Water Forum

Marseille, 31 March 2016 - The World Water Council, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MoLIT) and the Korea Water Forum have launched the first edition of the Implementation Roadmaps Progress Report. Implementation Roadmaps are a formal mechanism for tracking and monitoring progress between each triennial gathering of the World Water Forum. This report compiles the common endeavors of over 90 renowned members of the water community that are visible on the online Action Monitoring System. It is the first of its kind and will serve as a baseline for future reports.
While the 6th World Water Forum focused on identifying solutions to meet current and future challenges, the 7th World Water Forum centered on advancing their effective implementation through the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Implementation Commitment. Nineteen Champions voluntarily committed to lead and catalyze collective action on 16 Implementation Roadmaps.

Implementation is considered as a top priority to overcome current water challenges. The Roadmaps function as a blueprint that reflects extensive, behind-the-scenes efforts of the global water community and highlights the significance of the water-related agenda.
A wide range of organizations are already involved and dedicated to bring this initiative further. In addition, any interested stakeholders can make their actions known towards the achievement of the objectives defined within the Roadmaps. Progress achieved by stakeholders can be continually viewed through the Action Monitoring System, an online, interactive platform presenting and reporting on Implementation Roadmaps. It records progress, lessons learned, and contributions from the wider community and provides a global overview of progress on Roadmaps in real time.

The Implementation Roadmaps Progress Report will be published twice a year to communicate on progress made by the water community on the challenges identified during the 7th World Water Forum. Because action speaks louder than words, the Government of the Republic of Korea, as the host of the 7th World Water Forum, and the World Water Council are dedicated to support this initiative, as the key vehicle to monitor, account and report on publicly committed actions on the road to the 8th World Water Forum which will be held in Brasilia in 2018.
