The World Water Council is supporting the member-led initiative “Water Accounting for Agriculture”

As part of the activities inscribed in the WWC member-led initiative “Water Accounting for Agriculture”, FAO has initiated a process of expert consultations to gather evidences on why and how “water accounting” can help decision making and planning, to manage water scarcity at sectoral level. Experts and stakeholders interested by water accounting were solicited to share their feedback through an online survey, from 9 June to 21 July 2017.

The FAO’s member-led initiative aims to promote the use of comprehensive water accounting and is seeking paths to demonstrate the added value of water accounting in smart planning processes in water management and water governance. The initiative would result in the publishing of a White Paper on Water Accounting for decision making in the agricultural sector that will be launched and would serve as the basis for discussions during an event at the 8th World Water Forum in March 2018.
