March 19, 2005 - The World Water Council Board of Governors unanimously elected its new President, Loïc Fauchon, on March 19 in Rabat, Morocco.
Loïc Fauchon is the successor to Canadian William Cosgrove who left in January for a high-level position in the Environment with the government of Quebec. Since that time, Loic Fauchon has been the Acting President of the Council.
Loïc Fauchon takes on his new responsibilities just one year before the 4th edition of the World Water Forum, which will be held in Mexico in March 2006. "Our objective is to convince those in power that the priority, tomorrow even more than today, must be given to water and sanitation because water is the first guarantee for health and education," he explained.
Vice-president of the World Water Council until now, Loïc Fauchon began in the world of water in 1992, when he became President of the Marseille Water Supply Group. Originally form Brittany, and father of three children, Loïc Fauchon is also the president of a humanitarian NGO Transsahara, specialised in emergency transportation in Sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe.
