Countdown to 7th World Water Forum starts ticking

Daegu-Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea, 15 May 2013 - “The 7th World Water Forum will bridge the solutions of the last Forum to their implementation and will have high in the agenda the issue of Science and Technology agenda to stop the water suffering” World Water Council President Ben Braga said yesterday morning at the 7th World Water Forum Kick-off Meeting.

Korean Prime Minister Greets Council Governors in Seoul

On Sunday, the Council’s Board members gathered in Seoul , Republic of Korea, for their second meeting of the year. A dense agenda awaited them as well as congratulations from Korea’s Prime Minister, Jung Hong-won, on the success of organizing the World Water Forums. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to the World Water Council for choosing the Republic of Korea for the 7th World Water Forum at its official launch on Monday night.

Council Applauds Water Governance Initiative

During the first meeting of the OECD Water Governance Initiative - held this week in Paris, France - the Vice-President of the Council, Dogan Altinbilek congratulated the organizers. “It is through initiatives like this one that we will be able to convince decision makers at the highest level of the importance of taking action to improve water-related governance,” he said in his opening speech.

Water and Energy Focus for African Growth

Water and Energy are fundamental to poverty reduction and economic transformation on the African continent. This week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, experts and policy makers met at the Conference Centre of the African Union to discuss the future of water storage and hydropower development. Council President  Ben Braga gave a speech in the plenary session alongside the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia and Minister of Education Demeka Mekonnen and the Minister for Water Resources and Energy Tegenu Alemayehu.

Ben Braga, lors de la session thématique spéciale sur l’Eau et les désastres aux Nations unies à New York le 6 mars dernier, en présence du Secrétaire général des Nations unies, M. Ban Ki-moon.

La semaine dernière, le Président du Conseil mondial de l’eau, M. Ben Braga, s'est rendu en Hongrie pour rencontrer S.E. János Áder, Président de la République de Hongrie. Il était accompagné par le Dr. András Szollosi-Nagy, Gouverneur du Conseil, dont le rôle est de soutenir le gouvernement hongrois dans l'organisation du Sommet de l'eau prévu en octobre en coopération avec les Nations unies et le Conseil mondial de l'eau.

Le Conseil mondial de l'eau a été créé en 1996 en réponse aux préoccupations croissantes de la communauté internationale face aux problématiques de l'eau. Ses missions sont de sensibiliser, de favoriser une réelle mobilisation politique et d'inciter à l'action sur les questions essentielles liées à l'eau à tous les niveaux, y compris au plus haut degré décisionnel, afin de faciliter, sur une base durable, la gestion et l'usage efficaces de l'eau.
