9th World Water Forum, Dakar 2021
Water Security for Peace and Development
In March 2021, participants from every horizon, including political and economic decision-makers, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector will gather in Dakar, Senegal for the 9th World Water Forum.
Building upon previous World Water Forums, the 9th Forum will, through an innovative framework, seek to identify, promote and implement concrete responses and actions for water and sanitation in an integrated way.
It will be the first time the World Water Forum, the largest international water-related event, will be held in sub-Saharan Africa.
Pilot and Action Groups
The International Steering Committee of the 9th World Water Forum has finalized the list of the 45 organizations that will form the Pilot Groups of the Forum and the 200 organizations that will form the Action Groups. A series of introductory teleconferences were organized with all Action Groups working on the Forum’s four priorities, Water Security and Sanitation, Rural Development, Cooperation, and Means and Tools. All Action Groups members have been informed of the Forum content development process and have started their work.

Kick-Off meeting Report
Organized by Senegal and the World Water Council, the Kick-Off meeting of the 9th World Water Forum took place on 20-21 June 2019 in Diamniadio. It provided a first sample of the issues that should be addressed at the Forum and represented the first extended stakeholder consultation process in order to contribute to the construction of the program of the World Forum in Dakar in March 2021.
