Ce prix prestigieux, cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2002 par le Conseil mondial de l'eau en collaboration avec le Maroc, comm\u00e9more le d\u00e9vouement de feu le roi Hassan II \u00e0 la coop\u00e9ration internationale et \u00e0 la gestion durable des ressources en eau.<\/p>\n<p>Le prix comprend une somme de $500 000, ainsi qu'un troph\u00e9e et un certificat, r\u00e9compensant les efforts exceptionnels de la FAO en mati\u00e8re de protection, de pr\u00e9servation et de gestion durable des ressources mondiales en eau. Le prix a \u00e9t\u00e9 remis par M. Aziz Akhannouch, chef du gouvernement marocain, \u00e0 M. QU Dongyu, Directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la FAO, en pr\u00e9sence de M. Nizar Baraka, ministre marocain de l'\u00e9quipement et de l'eau, et de M. Lo\u00efc Fauchon, Pr\u00e9sident du Conseil mondial de l'eau.<\/p>\n<p>Le th\u00e8me du prix de cette ann\u00e9e, \u201cGarantir les ressources en eau pour la souverainet\u00e9 alimentaire et la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 partag\u00e9e\u201d, a attir\u00e9 84 candidatures de grande qualit\u00e9 portant sur des questions li\u00e9es \u00e0 l'eau. Dans son discours d'acceptation, QU Dongyu a exprim\u00e9 sa profonde gratitude pour la reconnaissance des contributions de la FAO \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de l'eau dans le monde.
