Le Conseil a rencontr\u00e9 des responsables de collectivit\u00e9s locales africaines, dont le maire de Ouagadougou (Burkina-Faso), Simon Compaor\u00e9, le maire de Chefchaouen (Maroc), Mohamed Sefiani, et le maire de T\u00e9touan (Maroc), Mohamed Idaomar, tous signataires du Consensus d'Istanbul sur l'eau, afin d'\u00e9valuer les progr\u00e8s accomplis et d'identifier les probl\u00e8mes sp\u00e9cifiques rencontr\u00e9s par les collectivit\u00e9s locales africaines. Des propositions adapt\u00e9es ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites pour am\u00e9liorer les relations avec les autorit\u00e9s \u00e9tatiques et l'acc\u00e8s aux financements et aux technologies. En tant que membre du Conseil mondial de l'eau, l'Institut international d'ing\u00e9nierie de l'eau et de l'environnement, bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso, a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la r\u00e9union et a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 les solutions mises en \u0153uvre pour r\u00e9pondre aux besoins locaux en mati\u00e8re d'eau et d'assainissement. Cet effort de mobilisation des autorit\u00e9s locales a \u00e9t\u00e9 suivi d'une pr\u00e9sentation du Consensus d'Istanbul sur l'eau lors d'une session organis\u00e9e par la d\u00e9l\u00e9gation de C\u00f4te d'Ivoire, qui a rassembl\u00e9 plus de 70 maires, et qui \u00e9tait ax\u00e9e sur la coop\u00e9ration d\u00e9centralis\u00e9e. Les intervenants, tels que le maire de Grenoble (France), Michel Destot, la vice-pr\u00e9sidente de l'AMF (association des maires de France), Nicole Feidt, et l'ancien ministre fran\u00e7ais de la coop\u00e9ration, Charles Josselin, ont r\u00e9affirm\u00e9 la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de soutenir les collectivit\u00e9s locales africaines afin d'am\u00e9liorer la prestation des services publics locaux. Le Conseil mondial de l'eau s'est engag\u00e9 \u00e0 soutenir les autorit\u00e9s locales africaines pour am\u00e9liorer l'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l'eau et \u00e0 l'assainissement, et plus particuli\u00e8rement sur un continent o\u00f9 les r\u00e9centes politiques de d\u00e9centralisation ont accord\u00e9 aux autorit\u00e9s locales des comp\u00e9tences de gestion sans moyens financiers. 5 000 participants ont pris part \u00e0 la 6\u00e8me \u00e9dition du Sommet Africit\u00e9 - dont 2 500 \u00e9lus locaux d'Afrique et 500 d'autres continents - lors de ce qui est consid\u00e9r\u00e9
