Water Media Programme

Building water awareness

The media play an important role in swaying public opinion on key issues such as water. Helping people to better understand these issues will contribute to finding solutions. Based on this rationale, the World Water Council, organizer of the World Water Forum, is currently conducting a water awareness programme for journalists.

Programme background

This Water Media Programme builds on the successful results of the World Bank’s Water Media Network, which was launched at the Johannesburg World Summit (Water Dome, 2002) and continued to operate through the 3rd World Water Forum (Kyoto, 2003).

Its short-term objectives are to increase awareness on water issues and to improve journalists’ access to pertinent information, thus increasing their ability to report on those issues. In addition, the programme aims to provide global networking opportunities, resulting in increased and improved coverage of water issues reported to the public throughout the world.
