Magdalena Herrera
Director of photography at Geo Magazine - Magdalena Herrera was the art director and head of photography for National Geographic France from the magazine's inception in 1999 until her 2009 appointment as director of photography for GEO France. A French citizen of Cuban origin she studied art history and aesthetics at the Sorbonne, and graduated with an honours degree, before embarking on a career as a photographer and graphic designer. She has won several National Geographic Society awards including highest achievement in the Best Features category in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
John Stanmeyer
Photojournalist, Time Magazine & National Geographic - A celebrated American photojournalist based in Otis, Massachusetts, John Stanmeyer is a co-founding member of VII, a collectively owned photo agency dedicated to documenting environmental, social, and political conflict. His work centered on Asian and Middle-Eastern political and human rights issues for the past eleven years and more recently on the environment and sustainability. Stanmeyer has received many honors including the Robert Capa, Magazine Photographer of the Year, as well as numerous World Press and Picture of the Year awards. His career began at the Tampa Tribune where he began working on international assignments traveling to various African and European countries and India. He then shifted his focus to freelance work on Asian and Middle-Eastern events. His photographs are known for their powerful depictions of human suffering.
Anna Tibaijuka
Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) & Governor of the World Water Council - Anna Tibaijuka is the first African woman elected by the UN General Assembly as Under-Secretary-General of a United Nations programme. She is currently serving a second, four-year term as Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT. A Tanzanian national born to smallholder banana-coffee farmers in Muleba, Tanzania, she was educated at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala. In October 2006, she was appointed Director-General of the United Nations Offices in Nairobi (UNON), the only UN headquarters in Africa and the developing world. She has served as a Member of the Commission for Africa established by British Prime Minister Tony Blair which resulted in the cancellation of multilateral debt for several African countries by the G8 Summit in 2005 at Glen Eagles, Scotland. In July 2005 the Secretary General appointed Mrs. Tibaijuka as his Special Envoy on Human Settlements Issues in Zimbabwe following massive evictions of the poor in urban areas. She is currently a member of the World Health Organization Commission on the Social Determinants of Health, and is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Commission on the Legal Empowerment of the Poor, co-chaired by the former US Secretary of State, Ms. Madeleine Albright, and the Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto.
Robert Lamb
Founder Director of the Television Trust for Environment and of OnePlanet Pictures - Founder director of the Television Trust for Environment (TVE) and editor for 400 programmes of Earth Report, the longest-running environment series on global TV, Robert Lamb set up OnePlanet Pictures in 2005. He began his career in television as a graduate trainee with the BBC. After three years as a sub-editor and reporter, he moved to an ITV network station. He later joined the Earthscan team at the International Institute for Environment and Development and established the first environmental news features service. At the beginning of the 1980s Lamb was with the IUCN in Switzerland as a communications chief. He later joined the UNEP in Nairobi as a science writer. In almost two decades with TVE, he variously commissioned, co-produced, produced, directed nearly 1000 films that have won hundreds of international awards. On the 20th anniversary of the UNEP governing Council where TVE was launched, Lamb stepped aside as Director to concentrate full time on programme production via the weekly Earth Report series. In 2006, he stepped down as Editor of Earth Report after the transmission of the 400th programme. In 2005 Robert joined Dev TV, a Swiss non-profit organisation as Senior Executive Producer. Robert Lamb has worked as a policy and communications consultant with many international agencies, including the World Bank, Global Environment Facility, Unicef and the World Conservation Union.
Gao Bo
Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources of China & Member of Chinese Photographers’ Association - Guest Professor of Sichuan University, Hohai University and member of many academic organizations, Mr. Gao Bo has published more than 50 academic monographs and papers. His major official mandate is to take charge of international cooperation in the field of water resources management between China and other countries and international organizations, and management of scientific programmes in the water sector in China. Under his leadership, in the aspect of international cooperation, his team to set up close contact with governments of 46 countries and regions and many international institutions, and has participated and involved in the organization of major international events, such as World Water Forum, the Yellow River International Forum, the Yangtze River Forum, etc. In the field of science and technology development, his team has organized and completed a number of key water scientific research projects, which have provided solid support for the key infrastructures, including the Three Gorges’ Project, the South-to-North Water Division Project, etc. During Mr. Gao Bo’ leisure time, he has set his footprints in all the provinces, autonomous regions and major municipalities in China and nearly 50 countries and regions around the world. As a member of China Photographers Association, he has framed a great deal of natural wonders and recorded local customs and practices in various parts of the world with his camera. Some of the photos have been published in related journals, magazines and exhibitions.
