She has been a central personnality of Africities Summit 2006. Rebecca Lolosoli is an Indigenous Samburu women’s human rights activist from Kenya. Ms. Lolosoli is the founder of Umoja Uaso Women’s Group, an organization and community of Samburu women formed in 1995 by women who were rejected by their husbands and forced out of their homes after being raped.
Under Ms. Lolosoli’s courageous leadership they have transformed their community from one of victims to one of determined women who have committed themselves to understanding their human rights and demanding that these rights be protected. Rebecca Lolosoli has represented her community at many international conferences.
At Africities 2006, she participated in a conference on « Women building democracy », organised by The Huairou Commission and CGLUA . She also gave a press conference on “Gender equality”.
