Korean Prime Minister Greets Council Governors in Seoul

On Sunday, the Council’s Board members gathered in Seoul , Republic of Korea, for their second meeting of the year. A dense agenda awaited them as well as congratulations from Korea’s Prime Minister, Jung Hong-won, on the success of organizing the World Water Forums. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to the World Water Council for choosing the Republic of Korea for the 7th World Water Forum at its official launch on Monday night.

During the first meeting of the OECD Water Governance Initiative - held this week in Paris, France - the Vice-President of the Council, Dogan Altinbilek congratulated the organizers. “It is through initiatives like this one that we will be able to convince decision makers at the highest level of the importance of taking action to improve water-related governance,” he said in his opening speech.

Water and Energy Focus for African Growth

Water and Energy are fundamental to poverty reduction and economic transformation on the African continent. This week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, experts and policy makers met at the Conference Centre of the African Union to discuss the future of water storage and hydropower development. Council President  Ben Braga gave a speech in the plenary session alongside the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia and Minister of Education Demeka Mekonnen and the Minister for Water Resources and Energy Tegenu Alemayehu.

Council at the UN: Act Collectively to Anticipate Disasters

“We know what needs to be done. We just need the courage to do it,” said the President of the World Water Council, Ben Braga, on 6 March in the Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters at the United Nations in New York. In the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, he encouraged the world community to change the approach to water related disasters and act collectively to anticipate the challenges.

In Budapest, President Braga Congratulates President Áder on Upcoming Water Summit

Last week, the President of the World Water Council, Prof. Ben Braga, travelled to Hungary to meet with the President of the Republic of Hungary, H.E. János Áder. He was accompanied by WWC Governor Prof. Dr. András Szollosi-Nagy, whom is helping the Government of Hungary in organizing a Water Summit in October in cooperation with the UN System and the World Water Council.
