World Water Council 53rd Board of Governors meeting, 27-28 October 2014
Marseille, 28 October 2015 - The 53rd meeting of the World Water Council Board of Governors opened yesterday in Marseille. The WWC President Benedito Braga welcomed the 120 participants and emphasized in his opening address the importance of continuing to involve Council members in the implementation of its strategy in an open and transparent way. Indeed, all WWC members were invited to attend the meeting and participate in roundtable discussions on major issues for 2015: The 7th World Water Forum, Climate Change in view of CoP21 in Paris, and the post-2015 development agenda.
The Board meeting enabled rich exchanges on a great number of subjects, including, among others, the emergence of a dedicated water goal in the post-2015 development agenda as recently confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly, which resulted from broad mobilization of the international water community.
Days before, in Marseille, the 7th World Water Forum coordinators meeting and International Steering Committee were held to communicate on progress related to the Forum and prepare the next steps of the preparatory process.
The World Water Council Board of Governors meets three times a year to address governance issues and guide the Council’s continuous activities. Together with the annual members’ meeting, these are important occasions in the life of the Council.
