New Water Platform dedicated to Local and Regional Authorities

Istanbul, 27 May 2014 – “The decentralization of power and fiscal devolution have endowed Regional Authorities a growing scope of competencies and responsibilities in the areas that are key to building a healthy and sustainable environment,” World Water Council President Benedito Braga said today at the 3rd Istanbul International Water Forum. It was during a special session dedicated to strengthening the Istanbul Water Consensus (IWC), as well as to the launch of its new dedicated online platform istanbulwaterconsensus.org. “We need a new water culture. Our role is to support local decision makers by sharing all successful initiatives and practices implemented on the field.”  IWC is a unique initiative that helps and challenges local decision makers to improve their water management strategies and services in the face of global changes. The platform was developed by the World Water Council and its key partners to provide information for local decision makers on the Consensus and how they can get involved. It also showcases innovative and efficient solutions, actions and policies implemented worldwide by signatory Champion cities.

Organized from 27-29 May 2014 by the Turkish Water Institute (SUEN), the 3rd Istanbul Water Forum will primarily focus on the subjects of Water Security and Legal Aspects of Water. Both issues will be discussed in eight thematic sessions.
