Description of your Organisation's activities : The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global organization with the mission of conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. With more than 65 years of experience and working in more than 70 countries, TNC delivers science-based expertise and innovative solutions with governments, corporations, local communities to ensure water systems and the landscapes that surround them support both people and nature. TNC is working with cities and communities to expand investments in natural solutions to address urban water challenges such as protecting water supply sources and storm water run-off. Combining science, innovative finance and on-the-ground experience, The Nature Conservancy is investing in strategies that help communities overcome water insecurity and transform water management. TNC is working with cities, communities and water users around the world to create and strengthen investment in approaches that manage and invest in critical watersheds through collective action models such as Water Funds. TNC is helping to develop new governance and financing approaches that recognize the importance and value of healthy river basins across water dependent sectors such as energy and agriculture.

Andrea has over twenty years of experience in the design, management, and leadership of complex conservation programs in the US and Latin America.

background : Fredrick holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering with 24 years experience in leadership and conservation. He has led a successful career in Land and Water Conservation, Conservation projects implementation, community projects management and development of public- private partnerships for conservation. At the Nature Conservancy, he pioneered the establishment of Africa’s first Water Fund in Nairobi from 2012 that brought together ten key organizations and Kenya government to work together and raised over 10 million dollars for conservation investment. He is now leading the regional strategy for Water Funds across Africa. In his previously working for the United Nations Development Program, he was responsible for implementing the global COMPACT initiative co-resources by the GEF and United Nations Foundation in Kenya. He has held numerous leadership positions and published a number of papers on land and water conservation matters.

Organisation statement:
Please describe the involvement of your organisation within the World Water Council and state how long it has been involved in World Water Council activities : The Nature Conservancy has been an active member of the World Water Council for several years supporting Council initiatives and Forums. In support of the WWC’s strategic programs, TNC has shared our place-based experience and thought leadership on the important role nature can play in water management in various venues and dialogues hosted by WWC. Most recently, TNC was actively engaged in the preparation and execution of the World Water Forum in Brasilia in close collaboration with local partners and government agencies.
For what reasons do you wish your organisation to have a seat on the Board of Governors ? The 2019-2021 World Water Council strategy offers an important platform to continue the momentum harnessed in Brasilia in shaping the way to Senegal 2021. The Nature Conservancy is interested in supporting the collaborative dialogue and action needed to meet the ambitions for building a resilient future through wise water management addressing governance, financing, and multi sector partnerships with the World Water Council network.
