This means that AWC targets to achieve Sustainable Development in Asian Region through technological Innovation. AWC will try to achieve its mission and vision with Priorities for Implementation and Water project. 1. Priorities for Implementations: PFI As the main actor of the AWC, six special committees (SCs) consisting of Strategy & Policy, Integrated Water Resources Management(IWRM) and Smart Water Management(SWM), Water and Climate Change, Water-Energy-Food Nexus, Water for Ecosystem, Knowledge Base & Dissemination contribute to identify primary regional water problems and applicable solutions with appropriate implementation methods. The SCs create Priority for Implementations (PFIs) based upon heavy discussion and insightful communication with all members. The PFIs focus on the current Asian water issues that can be resolved by the AWC. 2. Water Projects: WP As the AWC seeks to identify primary regional water issues and implement solutions, the AWC Water Project aims to promote regional cooperation on water and produce distinctive and visible results under the AWC’s oversight. The AWC Water Project represents the AWC’s tangible outcomes by providing concrete plans and consultation of technical methodologies and strategies to implement solutions in target regions in Asia. The projects are submitted by the AWC member countries, and the Council plans and manages the projects in cooperation with all six SCs. 3. Asia International Water Week: AIWW The Asia International Water Week (AIWW) is a triennial water gathering to share tangible implementation for resolving Asian water problems. It is organized by the Asia Water Council in collaboration with the authorities of the host country, and this event is one of the major tasks of the Council. Regional water problems that were discussed for three years prior to the AIWW based on the preparatory process are raised as the primary issues from Asian water community and disseminated to the global water community with action plans to solve them. Gathering of the AWC’s members and prospective members including water related stakeholders and preeminent experts in the fields in the AIWW is to share their insights and experiences to support the activities of the AWC and pave the way towards sustainable development in Asia. As the AIWW is held one year prior to the World Water Forum, major gathering for the preparatory process and the follow up action process will be held at the World Water Forum. - The 1st AIWW was held in Gyeongju, Korea on September 20th-23rd, 2017.

Organisation statement:
Please describe the involvement of your organisation within the World Water Council and state how long it has been involved in World Water Council activities : The Asia Water Council (AWC) is a global water network focused on providing tangible solutions on Asian Water Challenges and facilitating multilateral discussions among stakeholders. The AWC cooperates with stakeholders on identification and implementation of tangible solutions. The AWC organizes the Asia International Water Week (AIWW), in which the AWC share the achievements and water experts disseminate their knowledge through experiences and networks. The AWC also creates future opportunities towards implementation of water solutions supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Initially, the Asia Water High-level Round Table (AWHoT), one of the highlighted events of the high-level gatherings of the Asian countries, was held during the 7th World Water Forum in Korea. The round table came up with the need of regional water specialized organization, and it leads to the foundation of the AWC on March 2016 in Bali, Indonesia, as a follow-up action to pursue the core value of the World Water Forum. The mission of the AWC is to "Sustainable Growth in Asia with Smart Water" based on its vision, "Global Issue Raising to Resolve Asian Water Problems Promoting Sustainable Growth by Solving Water Problems." Currently, the council consists of 133 members and 26 Board Members most from governments and the public side. The council works as a platform engaging Asian governments and water professionals from around the world to discuss solutions for water problems in Asia and to achieve the SDGs. To achieve these goals, AWC holds AIWW triennially. With the slogan of “Asian Solutions for Water,” AWC prepares to discuss sustainability, and shares AWC Water Projects with water professionals from around the world. Moreover, the outcomes of AIWW are connected to the worldwide water forums such as 8th World Water Forum, Singapore International Water Week and World Water Week in Stockholm to continually discuss on Asian water issues. Consequently, with proactive participation in international water events including World Water Forum, AWC endeavors to realize “sustainable development in the water sector” by putting heads together with water professionals from all over the world. We believe that these AWC’s activities are in line with WWC’s activities providing water solutions over the world. Moreover, AWC and WWC have a concrete cooperating relationship and it has reached to have an MOU for joint research and human resources exchange at the 8th World Water Forum.
For what reasons do you wish your organisation to have a seat on the Board of Governors ? Asia is home to 60% of the world population and accounts for 30% of the total land on Earth. Therefore, chronic water disasters in Asia such as floods and droughts are urgent issues that persistently affect the livelihoods of Asian people more than any other region. As well, Asia is one of the most water-stressed regions in the world. In the last decade alone, more than 350 water-related disasters such as floods, droughts, and tsunamis have occurred in Asia. The Asia Water Council (AWC) is a global water network focused on providing tangible solutions on Asian Water Challenges to tackle Asian water issues. Especially, AWC host triennial international water event, Asia International Water Week, where various stakeholders can share insights and knowledge to provide water solutions. Last year, AWC hosted the 1st Asia International Water Week in Gyeongju, South Korea in September to discuss global water issues, share the accomplishments of solutions to water problems in Asia. AWC aims to provide practical solutions for Water challenges that are present in Asia. AWC intends to utilize AIWW as a platform to achieve the SDGs by successfully hosting various AIWW programs. The AWC Secretariat has been working hard with the Indonesia government to co-host the 2nd AIWW in Oct. 2020. The 2nd AIWW program is composed of three programs such as Asia Water Issues, Asia to World Statement and Water Project Forum. While the Expo & Fair focuses on the interaction with the general public, each of the three program has its own objective in order to include various stakeholders from different settings to increase participation and strengthen the impact of the 2nd AIWW. The outcomes of 2nd AIWW will be delivered to 9th WWC, so it could be a great chance to link Asia’s main agendas to the world. Lastly, AWC can provide concrete support to ensure the successful hosting of the 9th World Water Forum which will be held on 2021 in Dakar, Senegal. K-water, which is a board member and president of AWC at present, has ample experience regarding the World Water Forum, based on the history of hosting 7th World Water Forum 2015. AWC has actively participated in 8th World Water Forum as the 11 thematic session organizers to disseminate water issues in Asia. AWC is willing to share valuable know-how to support the 9th World Water Forum. During the World Water Week in Stockholm and Korea International Water Week in 2018, AWC has expressed sincere willingness to the 9th World Water Forum committee. AWC will strongly support Senegal for the successful hosting the 9th World Water Forum from initial stage to event in 2020. Especially, Asia region has a difficult access to Africa continental geographically, so we believe that strong Asian-oriented water organization’s support like AWC is essential for success of 9th World Water Forum. Moreover, it is expected that AWC can deliver water issues and solutions of Asia region with Africa countries and contribute to achieve authentic World Water Forum. In this context, If AWC could be a bureau member of WWC, both organizations will significantly increase the impact and the force of implementation for achieving SDGs.
