Organisation statement:
Please describe the involvement of your organisation within the World Water Council and state how long it has been involved in World Water Council activities : IWF works at the regional and sub-regional level to encourages the use of Integrated Water Resources Management and Integrated Water & Environment Management and water-energy-food nexus approaches to sustainable development into national policy at national and regional levels by assimilation and dissemination of wit and wisdom from local to global level and vice versa, promotion of inter-sectoral convergence equal emphasis on Soft and Hard Solutions to water and environment, capacity-building to change the mind-set of the stakeholders to perceive water as sustainable development goal. India Water Foundation (IWF) is keen to be involved into the activities of the World Water Council in order to imbibe the work culture and qualitative approach in tackling water-related issues as currently being done by the WWC. Being an international multi-stakeholder platform organization, the WWC has accumulated tremendous knowledge, expertise and experience along with good practices in generating awareness, building political commitment and spurring action on crucial water issues at multiple levels, including the highest decision-making level, to facilitate the efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, and use of water in all its dimensions on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all life on earth. All this makes WWC as a role model for the IWF and being within WWC, it would be able to emulate all these traits and good practices of WWC to facilitate realization of SDG-6 along with its declared targets in this part of the globe.
For what reasons do you wish your organisation to have a seat on the Board of Governors ? The IWF has been one of the first civil societies in India to emphasize on the urgency for water-energy-food nexus approach as well as pioneering the cause of non-engineering solutions to water related problems on par with engineering and technological solutions through capacity building of all the stakeholders in water sector. We fostered synergy between the activities carried out at the national level and those at the regional level both technically and socially. It is a subject that incorporates vital issues such as food security, sustainable economic growth and livelihoods, political sensitivities and involvement of the civil society. Also, we have endeavored to employ the lessons learnt at both these levels to bring the countries together at the regional level. The wish of the India Water Foundation (IWF) to serve on the Board of Governors of World Water Council is dictated by the penchant to make its humble contribution in working as a catalyst for effective and efficient implementation of the WWC and decisions undertaken by World Water Forum from time to time depending on the contemporary expediency. Since the Board of Governors of the WWC holds responsibility for major decisions in implementing the strategy of the World Water Council, the IWF would also like to make it humble contribution by being on the Board.
