Organisation statement:
Please describe the involvement of your organisation within the World Water Council and state how long it has been involved in World Water Council activities : The World Water Council and IWRA have been collaborating since the Council’s creation. Indeed, the World Water Council was founded out of IWRA’s 8th World Water Congress in Cairo, in 1994, with the Cairo Statement. Since then, IWRA has been closely linked to the Council, using its World Water Congresses as a milestone to support the Forum processes, as they usually take place about a year prior to the Forum. Moreover, IWRA has been the Thematic Champion for Water Quality at the past two forums in Korea and Brazil. Moreover, IWRA has successfully produced and co-produced a number of projects supported by the Council, such as the “Developing a Global Compendium on Water Quality Guidelines”. IWRA has been an active member in some task-forces of the Council during the last years and has developed joint projects with other members such as the recent case studies report on Smart Water Management.
For what reasons do you wish your organisation to have a seat on the Board of Governors ? IWRA is a membership-based organisation: its membership being located all over the world is made up of corporate and individual members from both water science and water policy/law, providing a solid expertise to the organisation and helping to bridge the gap between science and policy. Furthermore, IWRA has been strongly engaged to promote the World Water Forums, both by being involved in the Forums’ Thematic groups and by organising the World Water Congress: the upcoming 17th World Water Congress to be held in Daegu, Republic of Korea, in May 2020, will be a major milestone to the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal as done between the 16th Congress in Cancun, Mexico and the 9th Forum in Brasilia. IWRA is also willing to become a strategic partner in the preparation process for the 9th Forum. IWRA has been a member of the Board in previous terms and hopes to strengthen the old-established cooperation between our two organisations during the next three years.
