Description of your Organisation's activities : The NCWSC was incorporated in 2004 under the Companies Act (Cap 486 of the laws of Kenya) to provide clean and affordable water and sewerage services to residents of Nairobi City County, in a sustainable manner and within government regulations. It has its Head Office in Nairobi, along Kampala Rd, Industrial Area with the jurisdiction divided into 7 administrative regions in accordance with geographical locations within the City of Nairobi. the City has a population of 4 million people and is projected to grow to 4.5 million by 2019. The vision is to be a world class provider of water and sewerage services while its mission is to provide reliable water and sewerage services in an environmentally friendly manner that delights customers within Nairobi City County. As the main activity of the NCWSC is to supply water and sewerage services to the residents of the Nairobi City County, the Company is involved in the following services: 1. abstraction of raw water- intake works, transmission and raw water storage; 2. water treatment (production)- chemical feeding and storage, mixing sludge settlement, filtration and finished water storage; 3. water transmission- transmission, storage and trunk piping; 4. water distribution- storage distribution mains, pumping pipes and valves; 5. customer care- metering, meter reading, billing and complaints resolution; 6. Revenue collection- disconnection and re-connection of defaulters, actual collection, updating payments with agencies and adjusting of customer accounts; 7. collection of waste water- sewer connections, exhauster services, maintenance of sewer reticulation systems; 8. conveyance- trunk services and unblocking of sewers, repair of sewer lines; 9. waste water treatment- screening, disposal of debris/ screened materials, anaerobic maturation; 10. waste water treatment, reuse/ recycling - advance waste water treatment, energy generation water for industry and agriculture; 11. waste water release to environment- discharge of water into rivers/ streams. These are supported further by other company activities including Finance & Strategy, Supply Chain, Legal and Security, ICT, Research & Development, Internal Audit & Risk Management, Human Resource & Administration, Corporate Affairs and Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation.

background : An engineer by profession, Nahason Muguna is currently the acting Managing Director- appointed to this position in August 2017. Prior to this he served as the Director of Technical Services of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd since August 2012. Engineer Muguna has over 28 years experience in the management of water utilities. During this period he has supervised and managed various projects which included the Third Nairobi Water Supply Project that was funded by both World Bank and African Development Bank. He pioneered the informal settlement department of the company whose mandate was to improve access to water and sanitation to low income areas of Nairobi. Eng.Muguna graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1990with BSc (Hons)upper division in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Power Plants and Energy Related Studies and MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Liverpool (UK)and the University of Nairobi (Kenya)respectively. He is a registered Engineer by profession and a member of Institute of Engineer of Kenya. He is also an Executive Board Member of African Water Association (AfWA)

background : Mbaruku Vyakweli is a professional water sector communication expert with a wealth of experience spanning over 10 years. He holds a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from Panjab University (India), an MA in International Relations from University of Bombay (India), a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication and an MA in Mass Communication both from University of Nairobi (Kenya). He has been the Head of Corporate Affairs department of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd for 11 years. He served as African Water Association (AfWA) Vice President for Scientific and Technical Council (STC) upto February 2018. He was elected to the International Steering Committee of the Global Water Partnership Alliance (GWOPA)for a two- term period of three year each upto 2016. Mr. Vyakweli is currently an Alternate Governor of the World Water Council BoG serving first term. He is also a certified member of Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK)

Please describe the involvement of your organisation within the World Water Council and state how long it has been involved in World Water Council activities : The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company Ltd has been a member of the WWC for 9 years. During that period, the Company has: . attended the GA in Marseilles 2011; . attended WWF in Marseilles, 2012; . participated in AGMs in Marseilles 2012-14; . participated in the WWC General Election in 2013; . took part in the kick off meeting for the 7th WWF in Daegu, S. Korea; In Republic of Korea, we organized a session with Habitat and GWOPA where we were one of the panelists and presenters. . participated as special observers during BOG meetings before 2015; . participated in WWC sessions and cocktails at SIWW in Stockholm since 2015 and 2018; . participated in the 8th WWF and General Assembly in Brasilia; . participated and got elected as Governor at the elections in 2015 in Marseilles; . Since election to the Board in 2015 we have attended all Board of Governors' meetings- including the recent one in Dakar Senegal; . hosted the 62nd BoG in Nairobi in 2017;
For what reasons do you wish your organisation to have a seat on the Board of Governors ? The Company would like to represent and articulate Water & Sanitation issues affecting Kenya and Africa Region. We would also like to partake in knowledge sharing and consultations on water & sanitation issues within the region. Furthermore, NCWSC participated actively in the 7th and 8th WWC in Daegu & Brasilia and would now like to assist the Council and the BoG to understand the region better to ensure the 9th Forum in Dakar is a success. With other players in Africa, we would wish to make other African Water experts understand WWC operations better.
